Rare vintage circa 1920s era Art Deco sterling silver morpho butterfly brooch! This stunning elongated oval shaped brooch features an iridescent morpho butterfly wing background. The backside of the clear cover is reverse painted with boats in blues, yellows, and oranges. The brooch fastens as it should with a c-clasp backing. MARKINGS / HISTORY - Back of pendant is marked "T.L.M. STERLING PAT.202213 MADE IN ENGLAND" for Thomas L. Mott. Mott debuted and patented the butterfly wing design in 1924 and became the largest producer of butterfly wing jewelry throughout the 1920s - 30s.
CONDITION - Good to fair vintage condition. Sterling silver metal has been professionally polished & cleaned, age consistent patina and wear remains. Butterfly wing has been well preserved. Some loss to painting present. Pin back fastens as it should. Amazing vintage butterfly wing brooch!
